Keremeos: On June 14th, 2006 at approximately 09:35 am Keremeos RCMP attended a site on 12th Avenue after an excavator had uncovered some bones. The site has recently been sold for property development. Initial examination suggests that the bones could be human however police are unable to speculate on how long the bones have been at that location.
Police have secured the scene and are awaiting the arrival of the South East District Major Crime Unit.
When contacted, the head of the Keremeos detachment, Cpl. Cristine Makepeace, said that no other information would be forthcoming until the Special Investigation Unit from Kelowna has an opportunity to go over the scene. The location of the discovery is in the West end of Keremeos, near the dike that runs along the Similkameen River. Police tape runs around a large area of 12th St. An Auxiliary Constable was on hand when these pictures were taken and he told us no one was being allowed to approach the scene. 6/14/2006 5:36:31 PM
